In photos: Amphitheatre of El Jem in Tunisia

Built in the late 2nd century AD, Tunisia’s Amphitheatre of El Jem is the largest Roman-African structure of its kind. Once hosting more than 30,000 spectators for gladiatorial contests and other spectacles, the ancient monument was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979 and remains one of Tunisia’s most visited landmarks.
