Iran's Baghaei says Houthis are independent actors, not proxies of Iran Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei accused US Secretary of State Marco Rubio of lying about claims the Yemeni Houthis were acting as proxies for Iran. "The roots of instability in the region lie in US military interventions and hegemonic policies. If Washington genuinely wanted peace, it would take one simple step: end its malign and destabilizing interventions in our region," Baghaei wrote in a post to X on Wednesday.
