Why is August 8 designated as Journalists’ Day in Iran?

Martyr Mahmoud Saremi, a correspondent for IRNA, was martyred on August 8, 1998, in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, while performing his duties and working to report the news. The anniversary of his martyrdom has been designated as “Journalists’ Day” in the Iranian calendar.
