Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, architect of modern Qatar, dies

The ruler, who led the country from 1995 to 2013, worked to put the emirate on the international stage. Thanks to his vision, Qatar launched the influential Al Jazeera television network, established the far-reaching airline Qatar Airways, and built the massive US military base Al-Udeid.
