Between mid-September 2023 and 30 May 2026, approximately 6.04 million Afghans returned from the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan. This sharp rise in return flows was driven largely by Pakistan’s Illegal Foreigners’ Repatriation Plan (IFRP), launched in late 2023.
