Thousands of US Marines arrive in Middle East, Centcom says The US military has deployed about 3,500 additional troops to the Middle East, US Central Command (Centcom) said, with forces arriving aboard the USS Tripoli. The deployment includes sailors and Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, along with transport and strike aircraft and amphibious assault assets, Centcom added. The forces arrived in the region as tensions continued to rise over the conflict involving Iran.
