The port is India’s strategic gateway to Afghanistan and Central Asia, built to bypass Pakistan and counter Gwadar, just 170 km away and backed by Beijing. Take Chabahar out, and you simultaneously boost Gwadar, hit New Delhi’s investments, and undermine a route the Taliban have increasingly looked to as an alternative to Pakistan.
